Step-By-Step Guide To Untethered Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 On iPhone4, iPhone 3GS, And iPhone 3G With Baseband Preservation Mode Using Sn0wbreeze 2.2

iH8sn0w’s latest version of jailbreak tool is now available, the Sn0wbreeze 2.2 to jailbreak iPhone 4.2.1. The recently released software jailbreak tool has a capability to untethered jailbreak Apple’s iOS device that runs on iOS 4.2.1. In addition, the Sn0wbreeze 2.2 lets you to cook a custom firmware, just like the iPhone Dev Team’s PwnageTool, and use the current version of Ultrasn0w to unlock.

Requirements:

  • Sn0wbreeze 2.2
  • iOS 4.2.1
  • iTunes 10.1.2
  • Snowbreeze Supported Devices:

  • iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G
  • iPod Touch 4G iPod Touch 3G

  • Untethered Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 3G with Sn0wbreeze 2.2

Step 1: Download and use the latest version of iTunes (version 10.1.2). Download iOS 4.2.1 and the recently launched Sn0wbreeze 2.2 from our iPhone Download page.

Step 2: Launch iTunes and sync your iOS device with your PC so that it backs-up all your important data, which includes your settings, contacts, photos, music, and photos.

    Step 3: Launch Sn0wbreeze 2.2 jailbreak tool.

Step 4: Connect your iOS device into the computer via USB

Step 5: A splash screen will appear and it will tell that the software is not for commercial use. Just click OK and click on the blue arrow to continue.

Step 6: Now, point Sn0wbreeze to the stock iOS 4.2.1 that you downloaded. Just click on “Browse” and select it and click the blue arrow. Please wait while the application is identifying your iOS device and model by examining the firmware file.

Step 7: Now select Simple Mode then Continue
Baseband Preservation Mode: This mode only preserves the iPhone’s baseband. It does not jailbreak or unlock the actual device. All other modes still do preserve the baseband.
Simple Mode: Recommended for people that don’t know what to add. This mode will add Cydia, afc2, SSH for Apple TV and other recommended stuff automatically.
Expert Mode: Expert mode let you have all customizing options at your disposal. Such as custom boot logos, root partition size, installer options and unlocke.

Step 8: You are almost done. Now all you have to do is to relax, watch, and wait till the Sn0wbreeze jailbreak tool finished creating pre jailbroken iOS 4.2.1 ipsw, or you can play Pac-Man while the application is cooking your firmware (however, for some unknown reason, the game doesn’t work). Wait till Snwbreeze done cooking your firmware. When it’s done you’ll be given a confirmation. It’ll append the name sn0wbreeze before the filename of the custom OS such as iPhone 4 – 4.2.1

Step 9: Once you finished, you will need to put your iPhone into DFU mode. The application will help you with that. Just follow the on-screen instruction.

    DFU Mode:
Power off your iOS device while still connected to your computer
Press down the home button and power button for 10 seconds, then release the power button

Step 11: iTunes will ask for the firmware file. Just point it to the custom firmware you just build using sn0wbreeze 2.2 and sit back. iTunes will restore iOS to your device and when it finally restarts after the process is done, it’ll be jailbroken.

That’s it! Done! You can now unlock you iDevice using Ultrasn0w. Since sn0wbreeze 2.2 preserves baseband while creating the custom firmware, you can unlock your iPhone using the latest version of Ultrasn0w (version 1.2). This can be done if you’re on baseband 06.15.00 on iPhone 3G/3GS or baseband 01.59.00 on iPhone 4. If you are currently on baseband 05.14.00 or 05.15.00, you need to update to 06.15.00.
